The Orion XS is a state-of-the-art adaptive DC-DC battery charger, engineered to deliver exceptional performance and system safety. Designed specifically for dual battery systems powered by an intelligent alternator, it provides a reliable charging solution for vehicles, especially those with Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternators. These alternators often fail to deliver sufficient charging voltage, either when the engine is running or when extended cable lengths (common in boats and RVs) cause voltage drops. In such cases, precise and controlled charging is essential to fully charge the service battery, while preventing the starter or input battery from discharging.
Adjustable Charging Current
You can easily adjust the charge current in increments of 0.1 A via the VictronConnect app.
Smart Alternator Compatibility
The Orion XS features a built-in mechanism that detects engine status (engine shutdown detection) and activates the charger only when the alternator is supplying power. This ensures that the charger operates exclusively when the engine is running.
Adaptive 4-Stage Charge Algorithm
For lead-acid batteries, it’s crucial to keep absorption time short during shallow discharges to avoid overcharging. After a deep discharge, the absorption time is automatically extended to ensure the battery is fully recharged. The Orion XS offers programmable charging algorithms with eight pre-set battery types.
Low Temperature Shutdown & Input Undervoltage Protection
To protect lithium batteries, the Orion XS automatically shuts down at low temperatures. It also shuts down when the input voltage falls below a configurable threshold, only restarting when the input voltage rises above the restart value, safeguarding the input source (i.e., the starter battery) from deep discharge.
Remote On/Off
You can remotely switch the Orion XS on and off using the remote on/off connector or the VictronConnect app. This feature is ideal for integration with a switch or Battery Management System (BMS).
Comprehensive Electronic Protection
The Orion XS is equipped with multiple protections, including overload, short circuit, and over-temperature safeguards. When the temperature exceeds the set limit, the charger reduces its output power to prevent overheating.
Expandable Output Current
The Orion XS can be connected in parallel with multiple units to increase the output current, allowing for scalable power delivery.
Bluetooth Smart Enabled
The Orion XS comes with built-in Bluetooth Smart, allowing wireless configuration, monitoring, and software updates via the VictronConnect app on Apple and Android devices. The app provides real-time data, including warnings and alarms, without requiring a direct connection to the device.
VE.Smart Networking
Using VE.Smart Networking, the Orion XS can gather data from devices like the BMV, SmartShunt, or Smart Battery Sense, optimizing the charging parameters based on real-time battery information. This enhances charging efficiency and extends battery life.
VE.Direct Port & DVCC
The VE.Direct port allows for wired connections to a GX device (e.g., Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX) or other devices, enabling advanced monitoring, diagnostics, and control. DVCC functionality supports system-wide charge current limits and BMS control, providing comprehensive management of your charging system.
